Houseplant SOS sends every photo you submit to a plant-pathology service that charges us per diagnosis. That is a cost that arrives every month for as long as people use it, so it is priced the same way. Everywhere the running cost is ours once rather than monthly, there is a one-time price on the table.
The rest of the ledger reads the way it does for that reason, not as a marketing position: 11 of 12 apps can be bought outright or cost nothing at all.
